I have been training people for over 15 years and I like to simplify things down to practical advice you can implement straight away. Whatever your goals are in, here are some suggestions that might help you out: ✅ If You Want To Lose Body Fat: Fix up your diet! All the exercise in the world won't make up for a bad diet. Stop wasting your time in the gym until you learn the basics of nutrition. Focus on eating more nutritious food, building a better relationship with food and educating yourself on calorie balance. ✅ If You Want To Feel Good Mentally: Prioritise cardio and eat a nutritious diet. One of cardio's main benefits is releasing chemicals that give you hope. After just 20 minutes of elevating your heart rate, your outlook on life becomes more positive. It is my go to every time I feel stressed or I'm in a bad mood. Eating a healthier diet will also make you feel better and increase your energy levels. I would suggest not focusing on calories and instead eating more vegetables and less processed foods. ✅ If You Want To Build Muscle: Muscle Growth is a response to stress of resistance training, without this stress no muscle will grow. Lift weights at least 3 times for 30 minutes a week, focusing on getting stronger over time. To recover from your resistance training I would suggest eating 2g of protein per kg of body weight. You also need to have enough calories coming in to grow muscle. Skipping meals or under eating will slow down the process, so make sure you are eating regular meals throughout the day. ✅ If You Want To Maximise Body Composition: Unlike what most people believe, you can burn fat and build muscle at the same time, I see this most of the time with my clients. To achieve this I recommend weight train regularly (at least 3 times per week) and eat a healthy, calorie reduced diet, with high protein. Then add a little cardio or walking to speed up the fat loss process if needed. I hope that this advice helps you achieve your goals! If you are interested in learning more, please get in touch.
