When it comes to achieving remarkable results through exercise, there is one factor that stands above the rest: proper form. 🏋️♂️
It's time to acknowledge the significant impact that form has on our fitness journey and the importance of executing exercises correctly. ✔
Extensive research has unequivocally proven that performing exercises with proper form dramatically reduces the risk of injury. 🔎🤔
We all know how setbacks can hinder our progress, and poor form is a common culprit behind back, knee, and shoulder injuries. By prioritizing proper form, we can safeguard ourselves against these pitfalls and maintain steady progress. 💪
Beyond injury prevention, proper form ensures that we effectively target our muscles during workouts. By executing exercises with the correct form, we optimise muscle activation and engagement.
This means that every rep counts and brings us closer to our desired outcomes.
Don’t just take my word for it, countless studies confirm that proper form leads to enhanced muscle activation, emphasizing the need to get it right.
It is essential to understand the potential downsides of lifting heavier weights with poor form.
While the desire to challenge ourselves may be strong, doing so without maintaining proper form can result in compensatory movements and excessive strain on unintended muscle groups.
This not only hampers our gains but also increases the risk of injury. 😣
Starting with lighter weights and focusing on form allows us to build a solid foundation and gradually progress towards heavier loads.
This is how I encourage all my online clients to start a new program:
📅🎽 Start with submaximal weights that still challenge your muscle but allow you to work on good form. Focusing on a deep stretch, full range of motion, a strong contraction and keeping constant tension on the muscles throughout the set. They will normally send me videos for analysis and feedback to ensure they are safe and getting the most out of each set.
🏋️♀️✔ Then once we are happy that the form is perfect, they will slowly increase weight or reps each session while trying to maintain good form. As the weights get heavier and workouts more challenging, bad habits may start to creep in, so we eventually change the program and start the process again.
By following this approach you will be able to stay safe and get an extremely effective stimulus for your muscles which will allow you to keep training hard and getting results for years to come. 🚴♂️💪
